Tradition since 1876
The Fuchs family is originally from Alzey in Germany where our ancestors had already cultivated wine. In the nineteen twenties grandfather Adolf Fuchs went on numerous educational journeys. One of his travels led him to South Styria where he discovered the excellent possibilities for quality viniculture. Shortly after his trip, he bought the estate in Glanz near Leutschach and settled in Styria.
In the fifties, his son Heinrich, just as adventurous as his father, spent some years at Lindemann in the Australian Hunter Valley where he was responsible for the wine cellar. After returning from Australia, he decided to apply his experience to the family estate and market the wines under his own name. Today the grandsons Adolf and Heinrich run the family winery.
In the year 1996 they bought a second wine-cellar in Podersdorf at Lake Neusiedl, Burgenland.
Adolf Fuchs is in charge of the vineyards which comprise an area of 10 hectare. Healthy grapes, which have to be carefully cultivated, form the basis for the production of quality wines. Heinrich Fuchs manages the work in the cellar and the distribution of the wines. The individual character of the vineyards (the microclimate and terrain) is reflected in the grapes, which are gently processed in order to maintain this distinct character.
The ambition to produce fresh and fruity wines constitutes the foundation for the successful business philosophy. The white wines age in stainless steel tanks in order to emphasize their freshness. The red wines mature either in stainless steel tanks or in oak barrels.
